What's next for Pool Boy?

Casey Hallas is releasing an anthology of Pool Boy music called "Here Lies Pool Boy." There are 6 albums. It's garage electronica so there are samples of cable noise and artifacts embedded in the production just to make things sound less than perfect. In fact, all of my mistakes in life have been intentional. The album covers are intentionally cheesy, even. That's very creative.

Which Pool Boy album is your favorite?

Well I'd have to say they're all exceptional. But, if I'd have to pick one or two I'd say Volumes 2 and 3. I think 2 may be the best and it's not a mystery that the album with the worst artwork is the best album. I did that on purpose too.

What is your favorite Pool Boy song?

Paris 25, Carnivore (Pittsburgh Mix), ummm Egg, Chicken. Some of the abstract ones are great too like - Final Answer. There are really so many great songs - how could I pick just one? Wait, I'm asking the questions here! Meta.

Do you still like to go out dancing?

I've been uncomfortable with my herculean sex appeal for a lot of my life - and now that I don't consume alcohol I just like to get out on the dance floor with some impenetrable sunglasses so nobody thinks I'm jocking and dance like nobody's watching (California Sober). Oh, they're watching - but that's 'cause I'm a great dancer. Pool Boy is.

Is there anything you'd like to say to Steve?

Steve - you are toilet paper on my million dollar shoes. You should not have kicked me in the face.

Why should I see Pool Boy live?

In a word - synesthesia. I've finally gotten around to using my own music with my own visuals - so the whole thing is like super tight. It's love, baby. The way I see things, the way I hear things. All packaged up nicely - loud and bright. Plus Pool Boy likes to just put the stuff on auto and come out and dance too. It's flies in the face of the whole mythos of performer versus audience. I mean - come on - he's just a character anyway; celebrity culture and being snively has gone too far! It's installation art as much as it is performance. We're all the same really, except Pool Boy is way much cooler.

Did you really make all that music?

Absolutely. Production and performance with the exception of help on some of the early tracks from Charles Pistella and piano on a track by Robin Levy, both from Pittsburgh. Charles Pistella is a genius. And, uh, uh, yeah. It's pretty much all me and shows my journey as a producer. I feel my life experience is reflected in the range of production ideas and music styles. I mean Pool Boy's life, duh.

Anything else?

Let's see - a psychedelic theme park - like Dollywood, but way trippier. Make so much money that I liberate all of my friends and loved ones. Make the world a better place.

Questions for P.B.

Can you tell us the Pool Boy origin story?

Pool Boy is a high school AV Teacher who’s grown tired of editing football videos for the weekly narrowcasts. His greatest ambition in life is to be a house music superstar. In defiance he jumps on the field during the championship game and catches what otherwise would have been a game-winning touchdown. The shenanigans land him in a coma – during which he goes on a hero’s journey. When he awakes his track “Goodbye Seniors” has gone viral and his dreams have become a reality.

Love Island

The desert, what desert?
The desert can’t hold my pain.
This desert, what desert?
The desert can’t hold my pain.

I am an island, I am an island
I am an island in my pain.
I am an island, I am an island
I am an island in my pain.

Love, love, love, love
Love is an island –
Everyone has a place.

My Music

You will notice vintage cable noise samples laid on top of otherwise pristine recordings in an effort to recreate the garage sounds of American home recordings from 1998-2021. Pick up albums at Casey Hallas on Bandcamp and soon to launch in worldwide digital stores paying fractions of pennies per play – March 15, 2022.

Production

I’m putting the wraps on my first full-length album – Creature Dances. I’ve got a least one other album in the bag and 9 electronic EP’s to drop. The goal is to capture my video art collection and make video mixes for all the content. I’ll get it up on Bandcamp which will push to Apple and Spotify – then for sale. You’ve got to support the artist, man. After that I’ll move through the poetry songs one at a time until I’ve exhausted the content, and then – it’s time to hang up the old hat on some of these dreamy dreams. I’m lonely – don’t want to go broke with nothing to show for it.

Event Flyers

I’ve done my best to compile flyers for the events I’ve participated in or produced. There are things that have been lost to history but I hope to demonstrate my commitment to producing and staying involved in the art and music community.

This is a remix project for people who like to stay inside listening to Youtube music. Contemplate, as I have – the subtle and not so subtle changes about how I’ve taken Mighty Casey all the way through to Mighty Pool Boy (Bass Mix) Pt. 2 and ask yourself why? Why do this? It’s an exercise in computer music, state of the world 2022. It’s improvisation. The original Mighty Casey beat I mixed down on Virtual DJ sometime in 2011. That I created in Logic – the bass drum and hi-hat part, then added Tuvan throat singers and a slide guitar. This gave me the foundation to improvise bass and guitar for Call Me Casey. That session is what I’ve used to create the Is Pool Boy album. The most exciting thing ever is for me to mix all of these songs together with some rolls and special effects along with a fresh video mix…all from my personal collection. You will really enjoy it. I’m going to be nerding out on this a bit with another long format video on the changes I made during the remix process. For example -Mighty Pool Boy (Bass Mix) Pt. 2. What is more bassier? A 4th bass line, that’s what. So if you’re not satisfied with my work – you don’t like bass music as much as you say. For critics of the composition I will tell you both the bass line and the guitar part were improvised – one take! OK I did pick loops and remix in Ableton Live but that is improvised as well! In that way – I can say, this is jazz. Plus the piano stuff in general. But it’s the state of music, really that I’m communicating about here, not through this text but through the music itself. But, you should know – it’s computer-based other than the electric bass and electric guitar. I used a Peavey 5-string and a Behringer tube pre-amp for that and the guitar. The guitar is a Mexican Strat with surf pickups and a Germanium Fuzz with Supro tremolo. Otherwise this is all work in Logic and Abelton Live. Thank you for listening. Listen straight through from start to finish. I’m curious if it’s actually endurable or enjoyable this way. We’ll see! Ideally you nerds will be saying things to me like – in your set at Red Rocks – I liked that you mixed Mighty Casey Pt. 4 in with Mighty Pool Boy (Grampa Mix). I’ll say – you people have too much time on your hands. Then one of you will say – my favorite is Mighty Casey (Bass Mix) Pt. 1. For those of you just tuning in – it’s the one with the teapot solo. Yes, my other music has weird sounds in it too. This is garage music. I’ll say – do you mean you love me? And you’ll say yes. But that’s a long way down the road! Whatever. This is for bassheads and haterz and contemplating in college dorms and dancing to – really, dance to it. And yes – the artwork IS cheesy on purpose. I added clouds and a second lens flare to a sky that was cloudless and already had a lens flare. That’s so stupid. I really want to tell you about it. Fusion – jazz fusion with house music.

Respect

A great sign of respect for all we’ve been through together is your support of my work.
